Hi: I am a nurse in the Philipines. How long would it take to get to Canada if I was offered a position there?
The quickest route possible? Would it be the temporary worker program or the foreign worker program. Any idea? Thank

Check on air flight schedules for departing from your area to your stop in Canada. That should tell you the time it will land.

Best way is to go as a temporary worker. You can get a nurses license in BC. If you have a spouse and kids, you can take them too. Your spouse can get an open work permit. You can apply for permanent resident status through the provincial nominee program after you work for a few months. This page should be helpful to you: http://www.aved.gov.bc.ca/provincialnominee/strategicoccupations/healthprofessionals.htm

Nurses are in demand. Do you want to just work in canada and then go home, or do you want to emigrate. temporary worker will need a work permit - http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/index.asp If you stay in Canada and work for 3 to 5 years on a work permit, then you may be eligible to apply for PR - but it will NOT be just a few months. BUT if at any time you lose your job or your work permit is NOT renewed, then you MUST return to the Philippines. immigration will mean skilled worker category - http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/index.asp Under the skilled worker category it is currently taking about 5 years to process skilled workers applications. You have to stay in Philippines while this is being processed. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/international/02a-skilled-fed.asp (scroll down to Manila)

No dear, you must have at least one year full time work experience in ur field to be eligible. If u want to know anything else about immigration to canada, just let me know.
2 :
I believe you have to have at least one full year in working and earning a salary in your chosen field. I believe the USA is a two year time frame.

What if you're already a registered nurse in the Philippines?

You must contact the college of nurses in the province in which you wish to work. They will assess your education and credentials and tell you if you qualify to write the CRNE. Some provinces are requiring a BSN(nursing degree) for licensure.

Different states have different rules, though, you must take CGFNS and also NCLEX. Also you will have to get a work visa(H1C or H1B visa) or a sponsor for a green-card. For you the NAFTA visa does not apply because you are not yet a Canadian citizen.
2 :
yes. contact the medical board in your state to find out if they accept your degree or, if other classes have to added. i've know several canadian nurses who traveled around the US working temporary assignments, returning home in between.
