CAREER opportunities after Bachelor of Science in Nursing

CAREER opportunities after Bachelor of Science in Nursing?
I'm situated in Brampton, Ontario (Canada). I was wondering what kind of career opportunities I can pursue with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. More specifically, I would like to know if I can pursue a family nursing career (similar to a family doctor) because that's my true passion. In other words, can I be a nurse for a family in my own clinic? If so or if not, can you list similar careers with a Nursing degree? And do I need to specialize in family practice with a Nursing degree in order to obtain such a career? An answer to any question would be much appreciated, thank you.

Nursing is an integral part of medical care system. It is the art of caring sick people with the science of health care and believed to be one of the noblest jobs in the world. There are wide employment opportunities for B.Sc. /M.Sc. Nursing/GNM/ANM Degree holders in public as well private sector. You can seek a job in Govt. run hospitals, primary health care centres, dispensaries and health projects and scheme run by government departments. You can also be employed in schools, Orphanages and old age homes. In private sectors nursing homes, clinics are also open to you. You are also recruited by Military, Railways department for their departmental hospitals. You can also aspire to be getting employed in industrial houses and factories. Besides these You can opt for teaching in training institutes as educator. It seems you want to be a nurse for a family in your own clinic. It is possible but before that you should have enough experience with a Govt or Private Sector. You can start your own clinic as soon as you get enough experience. All the Best!
2 :
You canot be a nurse with your own clinic. You could become a Nurse Practitioner in a family health clinic but you would still be under the supervision of a doctor. To become an NP you must get your BSN and at least 2 years of nursing experience before you could apply to an NP Masters program(2-3 years).

Is a non registered nurse from the philippines (but finished bachelors degree in nursing) and currently working in dubai (for 4 years) as nurse can migrate in canada? my husband is a software developer here in dubai also and i have a 2 years old daughter. what is our chance? thanks in advance.

Both are professions that are in demand in Canada. There is a lot of paperwork involved, so be aware of that. Go for it!
2 :
You need to contact the college of nurses for the province you want to live in. They will tell you what you have to in order to become licensed. You will at some point have to write the national exam for nurses. You will also need to get a work visa. You can find out more at www.cic.gc.ca.
3 :
immigration to Canada (permanent residency) works on points system like requirement of age, education, experience and language test and if you can get minimum points and minimum survival fund, your chances are more

i don't know the procedure or have the perfect answer for you. but maybe to help you i would recommend to contact the IMC (international medical center) between heliopolis and 10th ramadan on cairo-ismailia road. its a co-working project between egypt and usa and they are american nurses to train local ones as well. maybe they have an exchange programm with usa? i don't know about it, but i would consider it worth a phone call or a visit. if you start there, maybe you get a sponsorship in your further education that way.

About having a decent job in Canada

About having a decent job in Canada......?
I'm a Registered Nurse in the Philippines. I have a degree and I pretty much have good grades. I was just wondering, would I have a good chance to find a decent job in Canada with my degree? I mean, if I could be hired easily because of the mere fact that I have a degree in Nursing. It doesn't necessarily be in a hospital.. hmm I'm thinking maybe in an office or something? I asked this because I am planning to go and work in Canada. Life here in the Philippines is really tough, like we are the most underpaid nurses in the whole wide world. I went to an expensive university (well at least for us it's already expensive since people here are underpaid). I want to make sure that I'll be compensated with my salary and the only choice I have is to work in Canada.

In order to be licensed as a nurse in Canada you would have to contact the college of nurses(our licensing bodies are called colleges) in the province you wanted to work in. They would assess your education and experience and decide if you were eligible to write the CRNE, which is the nursing exam in Canada. if you passed the exam you would be given a license. You would also have to apply for immigration. The whole process takes time and money. There is no guarantee that you would find a job. Nursing jobs are in short supply in many parts of Canada.Canada requires that you have a 4 year nursing degree.

How would i enroll in a Canadian University from New Zealand?

The requirements depend on each individual university. So, the first steps are - finding what universities there are in Canada - finding which ones you want to attend - going to the website of each chosen univirsity and reading carefully the application requirements for foreign students. Note that unless you have Canadian citizenship, your education at a Canadian university may cost you a small fortune. Start here: http://www.university-canada.net/ Sample page for internatinal students with application requirements etc from UBC: http://www.students.ubc.ca/international/index.cfm

Me and my son (7months) live in New York. I am not done with my nursing degree yet. should I finish it in Canada or should I finish it here and then move to Canada. It will be no cheaper than going to a US state university. Canadian and US degrees are accepted equally well in both countries. Especially in nursing.
2 :
universities.atwebpages.com - I found such internship info here. It has lots of internships, job openings and scolarships for college students.
3 :
It wouldn't be cheaper because you would have to pay international student fees to go to university in Canada as well as having to support yourself for more than 4 years in Canada.(You would have to complete your prerequisites and then do the BSN program) Also you would have to pass the RN exan in Canada and then apply to write and pass the nursing exam in the US. You would be applying for licensure as a foreign trained nurse.

You need to take the licensing exam in the state in which you want to work. You must have graduated from a nursing school that is accredited and , if you do not have recent experience you will need to take a review course. You can use the site below to contact the appropriate board of nursing. You will also need a work visa for the U.S. See 2nd site.

I am a nurse in the Philippines. I also passed the NLCEX for the US and currently licensed for Vermont. If I do migrate to Canada and decide to not take their exam for nurses there, can I still land jobs? Will I be a nursing aid or nursing assistant. Or do those jobs still need exams? What kinds of jobs can I find that match my degree?

You cannot get a nursing job in Canada unless you pass the exam. You may be able to work as a caregiver but you would not qualify for a work visa as a caregiver. You would have to applying under a skilled worker visa and that would require a nursing license. If you want to work in Canada as a nurse you must write the exam.

immigrant nurse in Canada

immigrant nurse in Canada?
situation. what if someone becomes an immigrant in Canada (as a given) ok. They have a background degree in nursing (bachelors) from their home country but failed to get any experience as a nurse after qualifying. What are the chances of them applying as a nurse in Canada?? do they need to go back to their home country to get the neessary skills and experience to qualify in Canada even tho they're immigrants already? thanks
Immigration - 3 Answers

They would need to qualify in Canada to work in Canada
2 :
You simply need to contact the nurse licensing board in the province you live in and ASK what ualifications the nurse needs to have. This person may need to take some courses, and probably an exam...and maybe a practical work course. If you do not know how to contact the licensing board, go to a local hospital personnell dept and ASK...they can get you in touch with the right people.
3 :
They would have to contact the college of nurses(our licensing bodies are called colleges) in the province where they wish to work. They will have to provide transcripts of their education for the college to evaluate and the college will decide if they are eligible to write the CRNE. Also the person will have to go through the proper immigration channels to be able to work legally in Canada.Currently there are not many jobs in the nursing field in Canada right now, especially for new grads or nurses with little experience.

You would need to have your BSN ( 4 year nursing degree) and at least a couple of years experience in critical care(ICU) nursing. While Canada has a couple of recently developed CRNA programs, they are not currently using them in the Canadian Health Care system. If you came to Canada to study you would be here on a student visa. Once your education was over you would have to return home. Being here as a student does not entitle you to stay afterwards and work. You would have to apply for immigration or a work visa to come back.

I've heard Queensland university is awesome, so if you get in it'd be a good option. Buuuuut;; uQueensland is viewed as the better of the two universities, however if you study and ace your units that's more important than the university you went to. So it comes down to where you want to live, my friends think Queensland is boring, and NSW - Sydney is ~fun...it's got heaps of crap that keep you entertained. But yeah, really you need to look into the two cities. (: - I'm from sydney, and i used to hate on the weather, now it's ok, - I find there are heaps of awesome people here, then there are shit ones. - Sydney hasn't got many natural disasters, unlike Queensland.. - UWS is pretty crowded (i've been there), if you meet good people, you'll do awesome, if you don't you'll hate your life (i've met heaps of good ones, then there are the bitchy ones.. ) - lecturers are nice in uws, they're helpful. apparently first year is easy (my friend did nursing there), then second year is all memorise this learn that..so serious! at uws, i think the 'clubs' are shit .. soz, only being honest. it's easy to pass units, the lecturers tend to be helpful when you ask them shit lol. if you speak to people in your tutorials (lectures are too packed, and heaps of people only speak to those they do know), you'll make HEAPS of friends. also, i tend to talk to random strangers, and apparently that means we're friends.. so hey, talk to randoms! :P OHH and advice, uni food is HORRIBLE. Make sure when you get here you know your way around, so you don't have to go through with that shit..or befriend people who you can go eat with. i go with my friends and it's way cheaper and nicer than uni food :) living on campus... i don't know, i've heard it's cheaper to live close to uni but not on campus, so if you're here for the whole degree just live on campus for a semester or year, then see if you can get better housing. good luck! and hope you get into the university you like

Nurses in Canada tend to make between $52,000 and $74,000 per year. I believe that an Associate's Degree would be sufficient for you to get a job. But, as with almost all jobs, the more education you get, the better your opportunities will be. So it might be smart to get a Bachelor's Degree. I advise you to talk to your school's career counselor. He/she can probably give you more specific information. Good luck!

How to find work as a R.N. in Toronto, Canada

How to find work as a R.N. in Toronto, Canada?
I am currently studying to get my Bachelor Degree in Nursing to become an R.N. and I plan to, with-in two years of graduating, to move to Toronto, Canada. All and any help is very much appreciated. I currently live in Orlando, Florida in the U.S.

What country do you live in NOW? Nurses in Canada are a "in demand job category " so if you become a graduate RN in your own country, a Immigration application to come to Canada would be "fast tracked " as we need more nurses here. You must apply and be accepted BEFORE you can seek work in Canada. No employer can hire you with out actually seeing your work visa papers, and your Social Insurance Number card, that proves that you are legal to work here in Canada. You will also need to sit a "qualifying exam " and get your Ontario "right to practise " certificate. Obviously you are fluent in English so that testing won't be needed. The Ontario Nurses Association is the Provincial licensing body, for RN's. Here is their information website. Their HQ in in Toronto. http://www.ona.org/ Send them a email, asking about your situation. Good Luck. Jim B. Toronto.
2 :
There are a quite a few hospitals you can apply to. All of them have a careers section of their websites that will help you out. You could also look at doctor clinics, and other areas, but I think to start with looking at the hospitals would be easier. These are the one's I know of: Mount Sinai St. Michael's Toronto General Toronto General East North York General Toronto Sick Kids Sunnybrook Baycrest Bridgepoint Health Centre for Addiction and Mental Health Bloorview Kids Rehab Humber River Hospital Princess Margaret St. Joseph's Scarborough Hospital Toronto Grace Toronto Rehab Toronto Western I'm sure I've left at least one out, but that'ss a good list to start with. Google each for their websites and look up careers/where to apply. If you get a job offer, you are well on your way to immigrating.
3 :
In order to work as an RN in Canada you would have to apply for a nursing license in the province in which you want to work. ONA is actually the union for RNs in Ontario, not the licensing body. You would have to contact the College of Nurses of Ontario at cno.org to apply for Ontario. You would have your education and experience evaluated and have to pass the CRNE exam. You would not be fast tracked for immigration as nursing jobs are generally in short supply in most of the provinces, especially for recent grads.
4 :
You need at least one year of experience after qualifying before you can apply for immigration. That application takes about two years. You can apply for a work visa but your employer will have to prove there is no-one in Canada to do your job before he can sponsor you.

Is it possible to pursue university studies in Canada even if you've been out of the country for some time

Is it possible to pursue university studies in Canada even if you've been out of the country for some time?
I'm a dual citizen of two countries and I've spent the past few years in the Philippines finishing off my Bachelor's degree in Nursing and I plan to go back to Canada to further my post secondary studies in the field of medicine or physical therapy/radiology. If it's at all possible, what academic requirements should I attain or what would I need to do to gain entry to a university/medical school?

Hmm...In terms of medical school, you should look up the prerequisite courses of the universities you'd like to apply to (ie organic chem, physics, etc). Each school has different requirements. I mean, it's definitely possible to apply, however, you need to keep in mind that some of your credits may not be accepted/transferrable. It might be a better idea to complete your pre-req's in Canada because of this...As well, there are limited spots for international students, as most universities prefer those that have studied in Canadian schools. But then again, I won't pretend to be an expert. Contact the schools to find out...
2 :
This is something which is programme-dependent. The most convenient portal is www.aucc.ca which has information about foreign credentials and also links to all Canadian universities. Good luck.

Depending on where in Canada you would like to get a job as a nurse because each province has a College of Nurses. You would have to contact them and find out all the requirements to become licensed in that province. In Ontario you can contact the College of Nurses on their web site as follows- www.cno.org. I know this because I am a nurse in Ontario. I noticed at the end of your question you stated "job in USA". I know each that they have a similar system to ours in regards to licensing. You'd have to contact that states specific "college" as well. I hope this can help you somewhat to get you started towards your goal. Good luck!!!

In the US, where a very large number of Canadian nurses end up, Diploma schools are either dead or almost dead. You want to get a four year degree, graduating with a BSN. That makes you a very desirable commodity in the nursing market, which is wide open anyway. It means that after you have been employed for a year, again in the US, if you decide to go back and get a Master's, the hospital will reimburse you for one or two courses a semester or year(depends on the hospital). If you get a diploma, you have to then go get a BSN. Then a Masters if you want to be a Nurse Practitioner or Educator or Certified Nurse Anesthetist. Best idea is to get as much education under your belt now, so you won't end up having to play catch up later. As to which is better, I don't know.
2 :
As long as a nursing school is nationally accredited one over the other is probably weather or not it is closer to you or easy to get to. Are you in Canada our great neighbor? If so, here in the US, diploma programs have been phased out. You might still find some but for sure those grads I have met have had some great practicals and are very good nurses. A degreed nurse will already have under his/her belt studies that could take them into different allied or related professions. Take care and good luck to you.

Start by contacting the Ontario Nurses Association, to find out how you can become qualified to practise as a Registered Nurse in Ontario. Here is their website. http://www.ona.org/ In order to come to Canada to work and live, you must FIRST apply and be accepted, as a immigrant, by the Government of Canada. Here is their general information website. You would be applying as a "skilled worker". http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/index.asp Nurses are one of the occupations that are "in high demand " in Canada, at this time. As you speak English as your first language, you have a decided advantage over other applicants, who don't. Good luck. Jim B. Toronto.

Just be yourself and don`t try to become like the Americans. Keep your heritage, traditions etc. because that`s what we like in Canada. In the States they try to make you like everybody else

Not likely. Standards and practices are sufficiently different that your Philippine qualifications won't quite allow you to take any Canadian exams. You would need to check with the nursing association of whatever province applies to you. Canada has about 1 and a half million (yes, that's 1,500,000) unemployed citizens some of whom are nurses. What few jobs there may be won't go to foreigners but to one of our own people so you're up against a lot of other Canadian nurses.
2 :
No you need to have your BSN to qualify as a nurse in Canada.
3 :
I agree with the other answers, a Bachelor's is now the minimum to become a nurse in Canada before taking the CRNE (Canadian license exam). The USA still accepts associate's degrees however, so if you don't want to study another two years for a BSn then you could try there. Good luck.

Transferring college credits from USA to Canada, possible

Transferring college credits from USA to Canada, possible?
Hi guys, i really need help and find all the helpful information as possible. I'm basically trying to transfer my credits in United States into Canada, I'm going for a BSN (bachelor in nursing). Is this possible for me to finish my degree in Canada? I have a place to stay and everything i just want to know if its possible. Also if my credits were transferred, can i apply for a permanent citizenship, working permit, or anything at all while going to school in Canada? Thank you, any advice would be nice.

It should be possible, although you may need to redo some of your nursing coursework. This would happen if you were to transfer to a new uni in the US as well. Don't be shocked if this happens. The US and Canadian uni systems are similar enough that you should be able to "transfer credits" and get some sort of advanced standing in the Canadian degree. Keep in mind that the financial aid you may be getting in the US won't follow you to Canada. I don't know if any Canadian unis offer financial aid to foreign students, so you'd need to ask about that. In terms of fees, you'll need to pay the international (or US, if it's offered) student rate, which is normally higher than the rate for Canadians. You also need to prove, for your student visa, that you have those funds: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/study-who.asp I believe that nursing is still considered a high demand occupation in Canada, and that will increase your chances of obtaining a work permit there. In addition, the fact that you got your degree in Canada will also help toward that. Canada uses a sort of a points system re: immigration, so having a degree from a Canadian uni, having studied nursing, that all adds points. Other things that may add points are things like having ancestral ties to Canada, speaking French fluently, etc. To apply to stay on in Canada, you'd go this route: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/cec/index.asp

What is a big city live and raise a family in Vancouver, Canada and surrounding areas

What is a big city live and raise a family in Vancouver, Canada and surrounding areas?
I really wanted to move to London from St. Louis, MO but my fiance isn't having it. We have a daughter and by the time we will be ready to move she'll be around 5. I want to live in a big city with some type of hussle and bussle. But I also want to consider living somewhere safe that has decent schools for her to go to. I will have my nursing degree and he has 9 years experience in Food and resturant management. Any considerations? Please... I need enough time to plan.

Your degree may not be valid in Canada But Vancouver is great mild climate great people . If you like the out doors start packing now. The olympics are comming in 2010 . Lots of work now. medicare for everyone About a hundred dollars for a family. Hospital free . Bus passes tax deductable . Go to hellobc and tourismvancouver they have free giudes to mail
3 :
Is that London, England or London, Ontario you were interested in, because England is so expensive that I don't know how anyone can afford to live there (maybe that will make you feel better since your fiance says no way). As far as moving to Canada, instead of look at locations, maybe start by looking at what you would require as far as immigration for your family. Check out what you would require as far as being able to use your nursing degree (likely upgrading and testing to qualify). I know many nurses who have left Canada for the USA because they were offered a lot more money to work there, and the Canadian nursing qualification is considered better than the US. Relocating between our 2 countries and being able to earn a living is not the easiest thing to do and takes a lot of patience and time with the bureaucratic process.

i love new westminster, we have all kinds of fairs, festivals, celebrations, and every thing. we also have a waterfront quay, that has fireworks on holidays and special events. Its a great place has great history and schools. and some really nice housing. Its safe and has its own fire station, police force, and ambulance system and hospitals. Before Victoria, we were also the capital of the province! there are parts of New Westminster that are busy and other parts that are quiet and have beautiful housing. we also have a few great parks, my favourite is Queens park it has a spray park, petting zoo and little kids park and a big kids park, there is also a concession open in the summer. we have lots of recreation. two swimming pools, one indoor and one outdoor open in the summer. We are also very close to Vancouver which is very nice.

Is it possible to be a pediatric nurse and move to Canada

Is it possible to be a pediatric nurse and move to Canada?
Hi :) I'm only 16, but nearly 17 and next year I'm going to university to get my degree in Child Nursing. I was just wondering can you be a pediatric nurse and live in Canada? I heard that countries like USA, Canada and Australia are very hard to move to and live there. I heard you special jobs that they want and need, like cook and electrician. My science teacher said that with nursing you can travel the world, but is it possible to be able to live in Canada while being a nurse? Thank you xoxo

Have you by any chance seen this? http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/index.asp It might help you a considerable amount if you're serious. I'm also inclined to mention that Canada is not nearly as uptight over immigration as the USA and to a lesser extent, Australia.
2 :
Are you coming from the UK? The difficulty with moving to Canada(and the US) is that our nurses are not specialist trained, we are trained as general nurses. You need theory and clinical hours in child, adult, OB and mental health nursing to be licensed over here. In Canada you must have your BSN for licensure. One excellent resource for questions like yours is the International Forum at allnurses.com.
3 :
My (Canadian) daughter chose to become a Public Health Nurse. It was a very, very good choice. She's working the hours she wants, and she loves the work. Since the 1960s, it has been more 'feminist' to become a doctor than a nurse, and most of the nurses who trained before then are now retiring. There is a growing scarcity of nurses. However, the demand for pediatric nurses is -> relatively <- low. Because the 'Baby Boomers' are now going grey, there's going to be a very strong demand for all geriatric medical workers of all sorts. Nursing is a very wise career choice!
4 :
Oh yes, go for it. Find a college in Canada and get the credentials there. Canada is a Socialist country, they take everyone.

well im not sure if this is really serious.. i would hope not lol. for starter in order to get into canada u have to talk like one. Im soory dare eh.. boot you cant really get aroond dat barrier dare.
3 :
You do not lneed to learn French to move to 80% of Canada. But if you get an RN, ans express willingness to live in a smaller community further north, then you might.
4 :
Check out the link below. http://www.cic.gc.ca/
5 :
I would probably say "yes". Canada has a "Skilled Worker Program" and Quebec has its own equivalent version. You can take the test to try a self-assessment to see if you qualify. Just punch in the appropriate responses, such as saying you are a nurse and have french language skills, to see what type of score you would get. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/assess/index.asp According to Canada's website, Nursing is a job that is "in demand" in Canada and qualifies you for an accelerated immigration status. Of course, to become a nurse, you would have had to qualify from a certified program. You may want to consult with the Canadian embassy or consulate in your current country to see if a degree from a particular tech school would be acceptable in Canada.
6 :
It sounds very promising. There is a shortage of trained nurses in Canada, and with that skill, and the willingness to move to a rural or northern community, you would probably have no difficulty. And, after a few years, you would have experience, would have fulfilled your requirements and would be able to move to a metropolitan center. Or wherever you wished. You don't need to learn french - unless you want to work in Quebec.
7 :
In Canada , Quebec provinance is French Speaking area and also offer immigration to people and the pass marks to qualify as a immigrant for this provinance is less if compare with Federal Skilled Worker immigration. But if you want to go other provinances of Canada as a immigrant , so first of all you should find your profession/occuptions in the 38 list of occuptions, if your occuption is in the list then you can qualify for Federal skilled worker. Points are divided into different factors, e.g Education consists of maximum 25 points, if you got 25 points then there will be no chance of more points in this factor. So, for the degree in nurse give you points in education factor and if you are experianced then according to it points in jobs experiance sector. But one strong point for you is Language ability in French, from where you can obtain maximum 8 points in frecnh language rather then 16 points of English Language. Is the Australian RN degree equivalent to the Canadian RN degree

Is the Australian RN degree equivalent to the Canadian RN degree?
Is the Australian Bachelor of Nursing Science degree equivalent to the Canadian Bachelor of Science in Nursing? If I obtained a degree in Australia, is it transferable to Canada? I had e-mailed the College of Nurses in Ontario to find out, but they said that I needed to apply for an assessment. I'm nowhere near ready to apply for an assessment, so I was just wondering if anyone else had experience in the matter. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Your education would have to be evaluated by the college of nurses )our licensing bodies are called colleges) in the province in which you want to be licensed. Most of the provinces in Canada require a 4 year BSN for initial licensure

If I graduate from a nursing school in Canada, is it possible to work in Canada after wards

If I graduate from a nursing school in Canada, is it possible to work in Canada after wards?
I'm from the US and I am currently attending a community college. I plan to transfer to a 4-year to earn my degree in Nursing and then go to Medical School. I was considering a school out of the US and I am comfortable with Canada. If I end up wanting to stay in Canada and work, is it possible after I earn my degree? Or do I have to go back to the states and apply for citizenship. Thanks! I wanted to work as an emergency nurse before going to medical school to study emergency medicine.

After Nursing school? Do you mean after Medical school? Or are you planning on a gap between the two. You will have to find a job pretty quickly, preferably while you are still in school, then have your student visa transferred over to a work one. Yes, that is very possible. But there is a certain amount of time (which is different for every country) that you can stay after graduation to find a job, and in some countries there are programs that you an apply into that will allow you to stay longer and not be sponsored. That information will all be on the International page on the website of the school that you are looking to attend. You do not just apply for citizenship! You must remain in the country working (not while you are in school) for whatever period of time they designate, which is usually five years. Then you will follow the rest of the guidelines and take the test for citizenship. It is not exactly that simple but you have quite a while before worrying about that as you cannot start maintaining your residency while you are in school.
2 :
If you are in Canada on a student visa you will have to retrun home in order to apply for a work visa so you can work legally in Canada. You should be aware that as a foreign student you will pay double the tuition fees for any school in Canada. I have one question. If you are planning on going to medical school to become a doctor, why are you bothering with nursing school? Nursing school is not a step towards becoming a doctor and education wise you will have to start back at square one. You will not be able to work as a nurse while in medical school as medical school is very demanding. You will also be taking up a space in a nursing school that could be occupied by someone who wants to be a nurse. best of luck.

If I get a BSN in nursing from a college in canada, what do I have to do to work in the US as a nurse?
I want to get my BSN in Canada because it is the closest school to my home in WA state, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to take the RN test in WA with a Canadian degree. Can I do this, is it complicated, is it worth it, does it cost more, and how do I do it if I can.

Call the RN Board for your state and ask if they would honor it straight out or what other things you would have to do to get them to.
2 :
contact the state boards in any case they will tell you what to expect there such a lack that they should be over joyed to hear from you
3 :
First thing to do is to contact your state board of nursing and find out what they need from a foreign educated nurse. Even if Canada is just down the street from where you are in WA. Next, talk to the school in Canada. Being so close to US, I am sure they have some insight into this problem. All I know is that with the shortage of nurses, I can't imagine it would be too difficult. Have worked recently with RNs from Canada in SE of US. They were able to get the state RN licensure very easily. Just be prepared to ask a lot of questions and get everything in writing. It will cost more because you are going from one country to another but I am willing to bet that the college has incentives to get Americans to its campus. Just ask, find out and get it in writing.
4 :
Try contacting the Washington State Nurses Association. They will probably know what requirements you would have to have to work as an RN in America. Their address is: 575 Andover Park West Suite 101 Seattle WA 98188 ph - (206) 575-7979 fax - (206) 575 - 1908 website address: http://www.wsna.org/snas/wa/ Good Luck.

No you wouldn't have to take the whole program over again. RNs are RNs. You will likely only have to take the licensing board exam to eb able to practice in the province that you choose to work in. http://allnurses.com/international-nursing/us-rn-new-340031.html This is a good post to read. It is someone who trained in the USA but wants to work in Canada, I think that some it will apply to you too.

I think you're on to something with the list. Specific locations require specific certifications. I know a teacher from Florida who wasn't allowed to teach in another state until she received a specific certification. But there is no global convention for normal jobs - such as office work / wall street etc. It's just a matter of convincing the employers of your qualifications. Now, in America, we do require work visas (green cards) - which has nothing to do with a degree. I don't believe they are hard to get if you are a skilled worker - but I've never tried - being American by birth.

Don't know about Canada and don't know about pay but I know it's good in US. Also some hospitals will help pay towards your degree if you agree to work for them for a certain amount of time after graduating. Some let you work at the hospital in some capacity while you are going to school. Nurses are in high demand in US. and once you get that RN. you can just about write your own ticket, so to speak.
3 :
My sister-in-law works in Ontario as a nurse and is a recent graduate. She makes about $35K at present, but has the opportunity as she gets more seniority and more experience, to make upwards of $60K annually. Good luck with your career and I hope you are able to stay in Canada. :) Cheers, L
4 :
I would say the United States pays nurses pretty well and if you're a nurse with a speciality at least ones you rotate on and if you work agency you can make good money. If you are planning to reside in the United States I can recommend and refer you to a nursing agency you can apply with.
5 :
there is a real need for nurses in Florida, you can go into any hospital and ask for your pay and they are so in need they will give it to you (18-30 dollars an hour!)
6 :
First of all, I thank you for working toward a nursing degree. We desperately need you. I don't know about Canada but in the Midwest here in states nurses get paid VERY well and can pretty well write their own ticket. Career paths are wide open and this trend is expected to continue with all the baby boomers in middle and old age;the need for nurses will continue to grow. Good Luck.
7 :
here in the US, there is a huge demand for nurses, aids and anyone in the health field, so no worrys about not finding work. the pay depends upon the place you work and if you specialize in anything. 30k, 40k, 60k per year. i dont know about there, but here in the US they also have scholarships to pay for nursing school.... so maybe there are some there as well. but, i will post what i have, and maybe it will help. look for the links that say nursing in it... Where to study nursing in Toronto, Canada

Where to study nursing in Toronto, Canada?
I am 17 years old and just finished my first 6 months of nursing in Perth, Australia. I want to move to toronto to finish my degree. How long does the degree go for in Canada, I have heard its 4 years even though mine here is only 3? Where is a good university to apply to and will it cost alot?

The universities and colleges on this page all have nursing programs in Ontario. http://www.cno.org/reg/nonmemb/progs_rn.htm If you want the Toronto area you would best stick with: McMaster (half an hour drive outside of Toronto) Ryerson University of Toronto University of Ontario Institute of Technology York University Centennial College Durham College George Brown College Humber College (their websites are all accessible through the website above) The universities tend to offer the full meal deal nursing program, 4 years, where you end up as a registered nurse. The colleges tend to offer the shorter LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) or RNA (Registered Nurse Assistant) programs however you would need to check them all to see which one offers which programs. As far as costs are concerned, it will certainly cost you more to take one of these programs then it costs for a canadian student. You can count on the tuition costs being 50% higher and perhaps even as much as double then what a Canadian student would pay since our Government invests in the universities and colleges to offset the costs for citizens. As a foreign student you would not get access to those rates. Each school has slightly different rates so check them out and decide if it's worth it to you. Lastly, before you can come here to go to school you would need to apply for and be granted a student visa. If you want to know more about that process check out www.cic.gc.ca and on the left hand side of the page you can select "student visa" and get the info there.

You would need to find out whether the institute you want to go to will accept the courses you have already done. Many don't accept education from another country. You would have to start all over again here. The degree is required as the minimum education in most provinces for RNs and it takes 4 years. Some RN programs are offered in conjunction with a college and some programs are through the university only. As well you could take Practical Nursing program, which is nursing at the diploma level and takes two years to complete. They do not have RNAs any more. There are also plenty of bridging programs available if you become an RPN and then decide you want to go for your degree later.

Yay Perth! Awesome, my hometown! Oh I miss Perth, I lived in Beechboro. Yup, degrees are 4 years here, not 3. Annoying, yes. I have heard good things about Ryerson's nursing program. (I did my ECE at Ryerson and loved the school). It's a very hands on program. If you don't have Canadian citizenship, tuition fees are going to be around double I believe. So you're looking at upwards of $13,000 a year. For citizens it's roughly $5,500-6,500. (Not including books).

Different states have different rules, though, you must take CGFNS and also NCLEX. Also you will have to get a work visa(H1C or H1B visa) or a sponsor for a green-card. For you the NAFTA visa does not apply because you are not yet a Canadian citizen.

yes. contact the medical board in your state to find out if they accept your degree or, if other classes have to added. i've know several canadian nurses who traveled around the US working temporary assignments, returning home in between.

In Canada you would have to go to university, they only offer the BSN ( 4 year nursing degree) as a minimum education for being an RN in Canada. Then you would have to pass the CRNE exam in Canada. Then you would have to apply to the state that you wanted to be licensed in in the US. They would assess your education and if they granted you eligibility then you would have to pass the NCLEX( the US nursing exam) inorder to be licensed in that state.
