I am a registerd nurse in USA with greencard. Is it possible to work as RN in canada with the current licence?

If you work in Canada, I assume you would be moving back there- in that case- you are not living in the USA and I would think you would lose your green card. Call USICS to know for sure.
2 :
Canada is a different Country - you'll need a Canadian work permit, a US one is of no use there.
3 :
Unless you are a Canadian citizen or a landed immigrant, which is the same as a permanent resident in the U.S. then you will have obstacles immigrating/practicing nursing in Canada. If you are serious then you need to contact an attorney who specializes in Canadian immigration. Though technically you can live abroad for up to a year without first filing a re-entry permit application, the law is a little sketchy. You cannot establish residency anywhere outside the U.S. or you will void your green card. What constitutes establishing residency could be subject to interpretation by USCIS officials.

Hi, Yes you can migrate and work in Canada . And in Australia, there is a shortage of nurses at the moment. rgds.....................
3 :
Yes. u might have to recertify though
4 :
if u are planning to go to Vancouver, contact RNABC and ask if u can be licensed by reciprocity,, when i worked there,,i had my license in new jersey but i still have to take their licensure exam, maybe because im a graduate of foreign nursing school, so yeah try asking them.. google registered nurses association of british columbia

The following is a blurb off of MSM news today - online. She just gave birth to 4 identical girls in the USA (Great Falls, MT): ........ " Karen Jepp had her girls in Montana because Foothills Medical Centre NICU in Calgary was over-capacity. It's a recurring problem for the booming city -- this year, at least five women have been sent to Benefis to give birth. There are 89 neonatal beds in Calgary. The city's Health Region has the budget for more, but would still need additional staff to watch over them. And officials said they've had a difficult time hiring more doctors and nurses. " .....so there you have it - just 1 example of the demand for nurses in Canada.

You need to have your education and credentials assessed to assure that you can get an RN license in Canada then find a job, get a sound job offer, and have your employer apply for a work visa for you to come to Canada. It is not uncommon for a persons certification and education in another country to not measure up to what is required in Canada for the same license, degreee etc. With the exception of Quebec, baccalaureate education is now the requirement across the country for entry to a registered nursing career. You didnt say where in Canada, but if it Regina you will like it there, altho winters are very cold, the people in SK are IMO very friendly and welcoming to new comers. There is a great arts and entertainment scene and lots to do there in your spare time - Be sure and check out a pub/restaurant called "The Free House" and no the drinks and food arent free but its a great non-threatening, friendly laid back place to initially meet some people. Goodluck !!

Each province sets its own regulations. You are unlikely to be allowed to practice as a nurse while in Canada on a student visa. You can try to immigrate to Canada, but you will compete with hundreds of thousands of other Indian immigration applicants. Your Indian degree will probably not be recognized for licensing purposes.
2 :
No, you have to get licened here.

That is a very serious allegation. I would suggest that you ensure you have your information correct prior to making this kind of complaint to the college of nurses. There could be serious consequences to you, in terms of liable and slander, if you have mis understood something! However, once you have thought about the situation carefully, and you still firmly beleive this statement to be true, the nurse should be reported to the College of Nurses.

im an rn in the Philippines and i want to go to canada.. would it be wise to go in a consultancy firm?? what are my ther options? thanks!
Immigration - 4 Answers

1 :
No, it's not wise to go to a consultancy firm. All they will do is take your money and make you promises. Wise would be to contact the Canadian Consulate in Manila and find out what opportunities there are for you in Canada and what documentation you need.
2 :
I spent three years working at a Canadian Embassy and we used to see these immigration consultants all the time. They would take lots of money from someone, fill out their paperwork for them and then drive over to the Canadian Embassy and have someone stand in line with everyone else. They would then drop off the forms and they would go in the queue like everyone elses and get processed in the order they were received. There is NOTHING these companies do that you can't do yourself. Go to www.cic.gc.ca and look up the immigration process. You can even download the forms yourself and go to the Embassy and drop them off. In fact, YOU can do EVERYTHING the consultant does for free AND you can save all of your money AND you can get the application considered and processed exactly the same. Save your money and do it yourself.
3 :
If you are planning on coming to Canada and working as a nurse you will need to obtain licensure as a nurse as well as getting a work visa. To do this you must contact the college of nurses(our licensing bodies) in the province in which you want to work. They will assess your nursing education and determine if you qualify for a nursing licence in that province. You will have to take the CRNE which is the national exam for RNs in Canada. Be aware that most provinces now require RNs to have their BSN in order to be licensed. Randy is right. Do not waste time and money with an agency. Here are the links for the colleges for each province: Newfoundland and Labrador http://www.arnnl.nf.ca/ Prince Edward Island http://www.arnpei.ca/ New Brunswick http://www.nanb.nb.ca/ Nova Scotia http://www.crnns.ca/ Quebec http://www.oiiq.org/ Ontario http://www.cno.org/ Manitoba http://www.crnm.mb.ca/ Saskatchewan http://www.srna.org/ Alberta http://www.nurses.ab.ca/ British Columbia http://www.crnbc.ca/ You can also check out the International Forum at www.allnurses.com
4 :
Check the requirement of Canada working as nurse, such as license. Then look for a job and apply jobs as nurse. Check with HR of your potential employer regarding the immigration. For working in Canada or immigrate as work related, you need an employment offer. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/apply-who.asp http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/apply-who.asp

2 :
Your degree is recognized anywhere. To seek employment in another country, it is to your advantage if you are already an RN in the Philippines. For Canada, here's an overview of the requirements. Good luck. http://www.medhunters.com/articles/licensingNursingCanada.html
3 :
yes
4 :
Your nursing education is recognized but you will have to pass the CRNE and possibly take an oral proficiency test in English and/or French. For your information, several Filipino nurses came to the Canadian North a few years ago to work as nurses but they had to take the CRNE. There is a tremendous need for nurses in the Canadian North (Nunavut, Northwest Territories, Yukon) and the salary and benefit package is much better than in the other southern provinces. However, only a few of them were actually able to pass the test and keep their jobs. Those who didn't pass had to go back to the Philippines, which is a disappointment. I would recommend that you study hard before deciding to apply, especially on your oral and written English. If you are interested in nursing in the Northwest Territories, contact me and I can find more information for you. Incidentally, the Filipino community is the largest overseas community here and except for the weather, you will feel right at home.

How about Calgary? We need nurses as we are in the middle of a boom. You definately get snowy winters here and warm summers, plus you can see the Rocky Mountains which are only an hour away to the west. Vancouver does not usually have snowy winters, although this year they are going through some horrible weather. Because they are seaside, they have a great deal of problems when it snows. Vancouver is beautiful though, Toronto didn't impress me much. I think Calgary is the place to be!

How an IEN nurse can migrate to Canada in 8 months with the benefit of â€Å“Arranged Employment”

How an IEN nurse can migrate to Canada in 8 months with the benefit of â€Å“Arranged Employment”?
I feel very confused about the complete process of Canada immigration visa for â€Å“Federal Skilled Worker - Arranged Employment”. How a nurse can migrate & reach Canada in 8 to 9 months with the benefit of â€Å“Arranged Employment” or â€Å“Provincial Nomination Program”. Because according to this rules a IEN candidate is not eligible without CRNE exam, so how he/she can apply for the nurse job (indirectly employee cannot recruit such a candidate). After some search what I learned is; If a nurse wants to apply under â€Å“Provincial Nomination Program” (PNP) category then for most of the province requirement for PNP is candidate should have passed CRNE exam. CRNE exam is only available in CANADA three times a year. So does it means candidate should complete following steps? 1. Prepare for the CRNE exam in candidate’s own country; 2. Apply to the nursing regulatory body in that province or territory for a permit to practice nursing in the province. 3. Apply for visa to work temporarily to meet province 4. If province gives permission to write the exam, after which candidate can apply for full licensure in that province. 5. Appear and pass the CRNE Exam. I think all this process will need at least 1 year. Then 6. Apply for Canada immigration visa for â€Å“Federal Skilled Worker - Arranged Employment” which require almost 6 month. I will be very thankful if you can guide me for this issue.

You fly to Canada and sit the exam and then go home and wait for the result. If you have passed - then you can apply to Canada under the PNP and that should take the 8 to 12 months you want. BUT obviously you must have visited Canada to sit the exam first. the immigration process does take time (depending on which category you apply in - it may take a few years) and you MUST be patient.

Can a Practical Nurse use cosmetic lasers in Ontario, Canada

Can a Practical Nurse use cosmetic lasers in Ontario, Canada?
I am a Practical Nursing student in my last year and I want to take an esthetician course next year. I am interested in becoming a Nurse Esthetician, but I was wondering if I would be able to take a course in Canada to be able to use cosmetic lasers, inject botox, and perform dermabrasions with the Practical nursing license rather than bridging to become an RN. Also what other job opportunities are there in Canada with a Practical Nursing license and an Esthetician License? If you could answer my questions it would be greatly appreciated! This is something I've been wondering about and can't seem to find the answers I'm looking for. Thanks You.

Inquire with the school. I believe that an LPN also requires cosmetology school and certification. An RN however takes specialty course work within the RN program and a certification / compentency test. The opportunities depend on location so search for careers / jobs for different areas in Canada and for occupations as an LPN and Esthetician. Y!A may provide more if you ask under Health category and Skin or career. Good Luck.

You have to get your BSN(4 year nursing degree) and pass the CRNE exam. Check out the program that you want to apply to and they will tell you what prerequisites you have to complete before you can apply. After you get your license then you can apply to work in a hospital.
2 :
You need to meet with your high school counselor to be sure that you are taking the right prerequisites for entrance to a university nursing program. Generally this includes once basic chemistry course, one biological science, Grade 12 English, Grade 11 math. You would be wise to take a social sciences course such as psychology or sociology as well. but the best thing is to get the requisite requirements of the university you want to go to and your high school counselor is the one who should have that information.

well, you are asking about 2 different countries here! in either case, you need to check with the licensing boards. if you are only gone for a year, when you return your license should still be good and you shouldn't have any problem. it depends on how long you are licensed at a time, how long you are gone; etc, and what you would have to do to renew your license.

Is the U.S. or Canada a better place for a conservative Sikh nurse practitioner to live

Is the U.S. or Canada a better place for a conservative Sikh nurse practitioner to live?
Is the U.S. or Canada a better place for a conservative Sikh nurse practitioner to live? Strange question perhaps... I'm very conservative in my political and religious views, although I hear Canada is more liberal than the U.S. I dislike how many American conservatives come across as angry and hateful towards anyone who disagrees with their views. I enjoy a heated debate, but I care about everyone regardless of their views. In general, does it cost more to live in the U.S. or Canada? Are devout Sikhs (turban, full beard, kirpaan) more likely to face problems in the U.S. or Canada? How hard is it to find work as a family nurse practitioner in Canada? What about 8 years from now? What about if you're a devout Sikh? Can nurse practioners work independantly of doctors in Canada? Some U.S. states allow this. Are there any rural areas in need of more medical professionals? Are there many opportunities and organizations for medical mission/volunteer work in Canada? Canada is quite cold, but in what way? Is the cold cruel and biting with strong winds like in some U.S. states or is it cold, but not "harsh"? Actually, I'm not South Asian. I'm an American convert to Sikhism. I've read a little bit about Sikhs in Canada and what everyone has said confirms it. I would be very happy working in a rural area even if there are few Sikhs in Canada. I plan to be active in the Sikh community, but I would not want to limit myself to helping only Sikhs. As far as volunteer work is concerned I was asking about the variety of Canadian organizations involved in this sort of work around the world. I know there are some, but I want to make sure if I move to Canada I'll find plenty of organizations which can find me volunteer opportunities around the world. By the way... my mother is Canadian, but she hasn't been there for years.

Sikh's aren't en vogue in either country. Both countries have plenty of conservative religious immigrants. It's the 21st Century, so expect not to be pestered for keeping whatever cultural/religious practises you brought with you, until it conflicts with Western laws, in which case you might make the evening news programmes for a couple days and then be forgotten yet again.
3 :
In Canada your religious beliefs are your PRIVATE business. We have hundreds of thousands of Sikhs in Canada, some can trace their ancestry back over 100 years in Canada. We have Police officers, and soldiers who are religious Sikhs in Canada, and members of our Federal Parliament, and Provincial Parliaments are Sikhs, too. In other words, the Sikhs in Canada are a large well educated and successful minority group, who are financially and socially well established. I can point to entire suburbs in many Canadian cities that are made up of Indian immigrants who are professionals of all types, who are living in million dollar homes, with 3 cars in the driveway, and all of their kids are going to attend Universities here. Nurse practioner? Not very many in Canada, and each Province has it's own regulations about qualifications, and scope of practice. It is still an oddity to find one here. My understanding is that they must work under the direction of a MD. MIssionary medical work in Canada ? I had to laugh at that question, as it is much more likely that Canadians would voulunteer to do that in OTHER parts of the world, like Africa or India. Winter weather in Canada..........To day, here in the city of Toronto, the actual air temperature is minus 12 C, but with the wind chill factor it FEELS LIKE minus 28 C. Unless you are planning on working OUTSIDE all day long, it is likely that you will be working in a clean dry warm environment, where the temp is a steady 21 C, all the time. Central heating and air conditioning is normal in work places in Canada. Hospitals here are modern and well maintained. Canada is the second largest country in the world ( Russia is the largest by square kilometre area ( so weather conditions ( on the same day ) can vary widely. Exampe, to day in Vancouver British Columbia, on the west coast the day time high will be PLUS 7 C. Compare that to Toronto, today. We also get a HOT summer, with 5 months of temps in the middle 20 to the middle 30's C, and weeks of sunny clear days, with occasional rain and thunder storms. We have four distinct seasons, with predictable changes, such as the leaves on the trees changing colour and falling in the autumn. Canadians are MUCH more tolerant than some Americans and we tend to know more about religious practices and symbols. If you asked most Americans about the word kirpan, they wouldn't know what it was, but here we know , and respect an individual's right to practice their faith. The greatest number of Sikhs in Canada live in the lower mainland of BC near Vancouver. The second largest population centre is in Brampton/Bramalea, a city about 30 miles to the north west of Toronto. Now I'll turn the table around and ask you a few questions, if you don't mind.? Have you ever seen a US Policeman, who was a religious Skih ? How many US Congress seats are held by Sikhs ? How many Cabinet positions, in the US Government have been held by a Sikh ? I will guess that the answer is NONE ? Now look at Canada, where the answer to all of those questions is YES, most definitely. Do some more research, and I think you will find that my answers are truthfull. Jim B. Toronto.
4 :
You better check about the history of Sikh in Canada .In general ,Conservative people suffer a lot in Liberal countries .
5 :
I agree with jim B exceprt for the part about nurse practictioners being a rarity. In my part of Ontario there are many NP practicing and it is not considered unusual to go to one. They do, however , have to practice under the supervision of an MD. Best of luck to you. I believe that if you settle in Canada you will be treated with respect for your religion and ethnicity.
6 :
Americans tend to be a lot more racist than Canadians. Many Sikhs live in Canada, especially in the cities. In fact, Surrey, a city beside Vancouver, has a majority of Asians, many from India and Pakistan. Seeing Sikhs with turbans, beards, etc., is not unusual at all in much of Canada. We even have Sikh members of Parliament in the government. Rural areas in Canada are desperate for medical professionals! Getting a job here would be pretty easy. OTOH, there are few Sikhs in rural areas - most live in the big cities, like Vancouver and Toronto, although there are plenty in smaller cities as well. Canada has higher taxes than in the US, but also more social programs, like health care. In the US, they have to pay for everything (crazy, eh?) themselves, or get really expensive insurance. In Canada, health insurance is done by governments. Nurse practitioners are becoming much more common. The only trick will be getting your credentials recognized here. However, due to shortages of medical people, there are some streamlining efforts being made by governments, and we are seeing more and more Indian medical professionals. As for the cold - Canada has cold areas (I live in one - the Yukon). But, so does the US. Many from India and Pakistan like Vancouver - it is never cold there. It can snow, barely, but really does not very often. The climate is much like southern England - they even grow palm trees. OTOH, it is -35C where I am right now, and it can go to the -50's pretty easily. However, you soon learn to live with it. Believe it or not! As for being conservative - while Canadians are perhaps legally more liberal, they are generally a lot more tolerant as well. We think of ourselves as conservative in many ways. People coming here also keep a bit of themselves and their culture. Canada is officially "multi-cultural" - ethnic diversity is celebrated. This is different from the American "melting pot" where all newcomers are encouraged to be, act, and look "American."
7 :
Having lived in both countries, I have noticed more Sikhs in Canada than in the U.S. As far as the cold is concerned, it all depends on where you live in Canada and in the U.S. Right now I live in a northern midwest state in the U.S. - it is far colder here in winter than in Vancouver, BC, Canada. However Winnipeg is colder than where I live - so it all depends. In general, the harshest and coldest winters are found in the Saskatchewan/Manitoba/North Dakota areas. Winters get less harsh and less cold as you get closer to the coasts, and as you get further south. As far as having the support and social network of other Sikhs, I think in general the major Canadian cities have a larger Sikh community than any of the American cities I have lived in or visited. Cost of living - it all depends on what city you go to. I live in the Fargo/Moorhead metro area. Lots of cold weather, but everything else about it is great. You can buy a house here for half of what you pay in Minneapolis/St.Paul and the crime rate is microscopic compared to any other U.S. city. The medical profession seems to be recruiting personnel everywhere you go. I know they always seem to be hiring in this area. In general, if you're willing to work in less-populated rural areas, your opportunities for employment will be much greater. In general, I think you'll find tolerance and acceptance just about everywhere you go in Canada and the U.S. Of course, you'll always find a few bigoted jerks wherever you go - they're always the exception, though.
8 :
Religious and visible minorities make out a lot better in Canada than in the US. In fact, that will probably help you get a job faster due to employment equity policies. Northern Canada would be a good place to look for nursing jobs, but if the cold is a factor, northern Ontario does need a lot of nurses. Rural areas will have less of a Sikh population, so if you're looking to get involved in the Sikh community, an urban area might be better. In regards to cold, it depends on where you are. In the prairies, the temperature may be lower, but because the air is dry, it doesn't feel as cold. In places like Ottawa, Halifax etc. there is more humidity in the air which freezes, making it feel a lot colder than the thermostat says. Either way, get a good winter coat, boots, a hat, and mittens, and you'll be fine. It's really not that bad. Good luck!

can some PLEASE help me edit this paragraph.? Nurse shortages in CANADA

can some PLEASE help me edit this paragraph.? Nurse shortages in CANADA?
hi, i need help editing this paragraph about nurse shortages in canada. There are many reasons that explain why there is a shortage in the nursing. The first reason is the growing demand. The baby boomer generation is getting older, thus, more nurses are needed to care for them. The second reason is the lower enrollment rates in the nursing field. Less students are enrolling into Nursing schools, and programs. Canada is graduating approximately 2,500 students less than it needs every year (Health edition, 2008). These are the two external reasons why there is a shortage. However, the issues facing the nurses within the health organization/center are more in depth. The first issue facing nurses is 1. Salalry; Nurses want to be paid better. The nurses Union also want higher premiums for weekend and overnight shifts. This way it would attract younger nurses to work overnight shifts and older nurses during the day. This issue is very crucial, because it has become the leading cause of of stress in the workplace.

suggesting not making out like I am the know it all-- if I was writing this using your work as a template =there are many reasons that explain why there is a shortage in the nursing[[[ shot yourself in the foot [[[ many reasons[[ so you give two or three NOT MANY]]]] pilots fly nurses? Nurse? well it is like saying there are many reasons there is a shortage of flys. [[[ why not go common english [[[[ Why aren't there enough nurses? What would be the causes and reasons? [[[ the first reason is growing demand[[[ yes but there will always be growing demand == human population growth is an upside down pyramid== The baby boomer generation is getting older so on so on = let me digress like I was typing something==== as I think about it as I see it the reason there are fewer nurses answering the call of duty is many ( as you said ) most people go for the money or MOSTLY feel a calling to help people. In the old days, a nurse would give tender loving care to several patients and be there to talk and try to cheer people up. Now a days there is NO TIME for that. No time for the human touch. So the nurse has to run like heck at the report of the starting pistol and give sixty pills to fifty patients all at the run. back at base you can hope you gave the right pills to the right people == then run like heck and take all vital signs. = in the old days a patient might be there for two weeks ( again the human touch ) [[ now a days you can be shot ten times be pregnant and have an appendix removed and the hospital wants you OUT in two days. MRS mac Carthey OOHH you mean 8h52-9h. bed seven. -- once again the human touch is gone. So it is getting whipped and beaten for more production but little of the human touch of the type florence nightengale was famous for . hence run like hell legs give out. == what it is really just people and people burning out== if you were a nurse you probaly could not chat up a patient== what with big brother looking at the computer shedule knowing you can dispense with 90 patients and the day is half over and you only tended 40 . this means you are running like heck and think you deserve a pat on the back ;; but the fortune teller knows you are going to get a kick in the butt-- at approximately 1720 hours depending on how the computer is feeling. ==== now for all this look at what a nurse has to learn== a nurse is like only about four or five years away from supposed to know what a doctor knows== so I personally would blame burn out and frustration . The shortage is due to the fact that management has not come up with some relief for this burn out and frustration. ====things we don't have to worry about== if you were a nurse and five patients died on you wouldn't you feel sad?????? post traumatic syndrome ring a bell== lament = WHO NURSES THE NURSES

There are lots of positions available overseas, but be careful, most of the placement agencies are corrupt, they will ask for either money up front, or repayment with large interest rates. Why not consider landing a job at medical city or somewhere better here in the Philippines? I'm an Australian living and working in the Philippines, I love it here. I've been hurt a bunch of times, but you have to pick yourself up and start over again. It's hard to move country, even harder to bring your children along. I know this from experience. Hugs for you. Sorry, lots of broken hearts in this country.

Sweden are allways looking for nurses. I think you need to speek fluent swedish to get hired though. Foreign credentials might not fit for swedish health care and medcal code either. Very good chanses here in US I think.....They are recruiting from overseas....

The biggest difference between Canada and the UK? TREES! Having lived in both the UK and Canada (where I live now) I can say that while there are a lot of similarities there are also a number of differences. First off, it's cheaper to live in Canada for the most part. Places like Vancouver can be very pricey, but most of Canada is pretty affordable. Houses are roughly half the cost of those in the UK. Petrol is half the price you're paying in the UK. A downside to Canada is that it can be too darn big. If you don't live in major city like Toronto or Montreal and you like to see big name concerts you're going to have to drive for hours, or fly, just to get to the venue. It's generally much colder in Canada in the winter, but our summers tend to be a bit hotter than in the UK. You have midges, we have mosquitoes and horse flies. You kinda get used to them after a while :) The cultures can be pretty different in several ways, but nothing that would shock you too much. We love beer, but so do the Brits :) We bbq a LOT, you not so much. I love both countries and I think it would be a great experience for you to work here, at least for a while.

How is nursing in the United Kingdom compared to Canada

How is nursing in the United Kingdom compared to Canada?
I'm a recent grad from nursing and was hoping to travel and nurse. I'd love to travel around Europe and thought a fun place to use as my home base would be London. Over the past few weeks though I've heard some bad things about nursing in the UK. Things such as poor wages, poor working conditions and lack of responsibilities/allowance to perform many of the nursing skills I do here in Canada. Help me please with any of your opinions. I'd like to find out as much as I could before I head over or if I should even head over. Thanks!!

Excellent! try Paddington Hospital or Royal Norther Hospital on Holloway Road, both in London. Nurses in England are trained in hospitals
3 :
Under paid and under appreciated. London is horribly expensive and unless you want to spend all your time in London you'd be better off somewhere where you'll have low enough costs to still have a life.
4 :
If you want to travel and are a registered nurse then New Zealand are desperate for qualified medical staff...seriously! Here is just one site advertising...there are plenty more! http://www.adhb.govt.nz/AucklandHealthCareers/ http://newzealandnow.info/ Good luck where ever you end up!

You can't. You need a degree, minimum 4 years. Look up to governments NAFTA trade agreement with the states. Only particular professions deemed in demand (nurses with a BSN are on the list, as are physicians) qualify. Unfortunately, Nurse aides do not.

Go to the website : Google Ontario Nurses Association website it should give you more information as how to do it.
2 :
You need to contact the college of nurses for the province you wish to live in and they will have the neccessary forms for applying for licensure. You will have to have your education and experience evaluated and pass the CRNE which is the national licensing exam. Many provinces in Canada are requiring a BSN for licensure. Check out allnurses.com for more information. You also will have to apply to immigration for the proper visa as well.

Becoming a Nurse in Canada

Becoming a Nurse in Canada?
I am currently taking pre-med in a Canadian university, and I am finishing semester 1 of my first year and wondering if I should consider nursing instead. This is because my grades have not been great like I thought I would get. My grades are B's at the moment, and I blame it on my poor study habits and lack of preparation (In highschool I got A's studying like this). I do know that I could do better because I have started studying differently and have noticed results, but I am not sure if I have destroyed my chances of med school by getting B grades. I am thinking of something like an ICU RN for a backup, so I am wondering what schooling would I be required to do to become an ICU RN? Salaries in Canada, specifically Manitoba if possible? How many hours a week might a full time RN work? What grades are generally ideal for someone to become a RN? Would I be taking the sciences ? (Biology, chemistry, physics) because I do enjoy biology and physics and would like to be taking these courses. Additional questions I forgot to ask: What is the job availability and job security like?
Health Care - 2 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
stick with pre-med. if you are SURE you have changed your study habits, you have two choices; ask the university if you can re-take x classes and have them only list the higher grade earned the 2nd semester/year. or...... attend another school and do not mention attending the current U on any of your employment docs.
2 :
You will likely have all the courses you need to enter a BSN program and your grades seem to be OK. Pretty much all the nurses in Canada who work in hospitals are unionized so wages and job security are good. Full time hours vary across the country and range from 1870 to 1970 hours per year. Vacancies are everywhere however, from time to time politics does get in the way and with cutbacks the jobs might be fewer in number, however, this is always temporary. If you have been in sciences so far you might need to round that out with some English and social science courses but you should be able to take these as electives during your first few years. In order to become an ICU nurse you would have to complete a degree in nursing, work for a few years to gain experience then complete a critical care course. Once you have been working for a while many employers will help you with the completion of the critical care course. At the resource website there is a chart listing all the nursing salaries across Canada. - You should be able to find Manitoba on there.

I am an American living in NZ. Try seek.co.nz. Once you find a position, the immigration process is fairly straightforward (but still tedious). Nurses are really needed in NZ, so you should be able to find a position. Just be aware that (compared with the U.S.) pay is generally lower here, the cost of living is high, and the standard of living is low. Feel free to email me if you have any specific questions.

What is your citizenship? Where were you trained, educated, and what level of "nurse" are you? Your education and qualifications have to be comparable & acceptable to Canadian/New Zealand nursing programs. For example, there are Haitian nurses in the US who are working as non-certified nurses aides, because their education and credentials do not even meet requirements for sitting board exams to become a Certified Nurses Aide. First research any websites on the nursing profession to see what their licensing requirements are. You will also want to check on current openings, salaries offered, taxation, cost of living, etc. before you consider immigration. Do your "due diligence" before you try to find an agency or start applying to immigrate! Canada has very high tax rates and the General Sales Tax (GST is 15% in Ontario, for example); cost of living is generally higher than the US, for example. Canada Health controls salaries, etc. Canadian health professionals are flocking to the US due to the sorry state of socialized medicine. New Zealand: high tax, high cost, low wages, but they do need nurses.

Here is some information on qualifying in Saskatchewan http://www.healthcareersinsask.ca/Careers/index.aspx who is recruiting a lot of foreign nurses right now. Nurses are paid a lot here (SK just negotiated a 35% wage increase), cost of living is pretty reasonable and GST is a federal tax - the same across the country - at 5%. IMHO we have one of the best healthcare coverages in the world.
