You have to get your BSN degree(4 years) and get at least 2 years experience in acute care nursing before you can apply to an NP masters program which is 2-3 years depending on the program.

If you are on a work permit, it is usually issued for 1-2 years at a time. It would be hard to get a work permit extended if you are not living in Canada full time. If you are a permanent resident, you can be gone from Canada total 3 years out of every 5 year period so you can keep your PR if you are gone up to 6 months a year. If you are a citizen, you can come and go as you please.

Adding to what Leon said. On a work premit you are REQUIRED to stay in Canada during the length of the work permit. If you are a PR then you can be out of Canada for up to three years at a time. BUT every time you leave for 6 months and come back for 6 months and then leave for 6 months, and come back for 6months, you MAY be at risk of having you PR status revoked because you are NOT living in Canada as a full time resident. You also cannot count time outside of Canada towards your citizenship.

Temporary work in Canada as a RN Nurse

Temporary work in Canada as a RN Nurse?
OK so me and my other half want to go work in Canada for a year. I'm a newly qualified RN, my other half has a degree. We plan to do so in 2011/12. How do we go about finding out any information? Who do we get in touch with? We currently live in the UK.

In Western Canada you can apply directly with the heath authorities who often have labour market opinions which enable them to sponsor you for a termporary work permit. It may be difficult to find an employer who would only want to hire you for one year given the paperwork but who knows what the demand will be like in 2011. Feel free to keep in touch.
